Children's Center
The main focus of Children Centre's activities is complex care for children endangered by their surroundings, abandoned, neglected, abused and children with handicaps.
Simultaneously we work with both biological and adoptive parents according to the system and rules of integrated care.
We always work in team.
Our team consists of paediatrician, neurologist, psychologist, phoniatrist, nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker and in indicated cases another specialist.
We have 12 family units, one small flat, one training flat, 2 standard departments and 25 beds for immediate help. The capacity of our centre is 140 beds.
Care provided in Children Centre to children from birth until 3 (6) years:
- nursing and educational care according to individual programs for developmental support, medical care especially for children with health complications (developmental disorders, chronic diseases, drug abstinence syndrome),
- individual physiotherapy,
- psychological care,
- occupational therapy and speech therapy,
- music therapy and puppet therapy,
- hippotherapy, canistherapy, swimming,
- health supportive stays in nature,
- widened social and emotional support provided by volunteer service "Malicek" (each volunteer is coming to see “his own” child for a long period of time and shares with him/her an intensive friendly contact).
In indicated cases we offer to mothers with children the following service:
- diagnostic and therapeutic stay for several weeks (for drug or alcohol addicted mothers),
- training stay (for under-aged mothers, for mothers from underprivileged families, with handicaps, with psychiatric problems),
- social counselling,
- child care counselling,
- psychological counselling,
- individual psychotherapy,
- community meetings,
- support and guidance in difficult life situation.
For pregnant women who want to keep their pregnancy in secret we provide:
- support,
- counselling,
- information,
- guidance.
The pregnant woman, who wants to hide before giving birth, can do so “secretly” or in a regime of concealed birth. Beside safe, protected and peaceful place we provide following cost-free service to the pregnant woman:
- stay before giving birth to the child (with complex medical, psychological and social care included),
- contact to maternity hospital,
- admission of her child after the birth,
- admission of the mother back to her child in case that she changed her decision about substitutional family care,
- if the woman signs an agreement with the substitutional family care within first six weeks, the child leaves for substitutional family care.
Delegating to accomplishments of social-law protection of children:
In accordance with law nr. 359/1999 Sb., about social-law protection of children we have been delegated to accomplishments of social-law protection of children in following extent:
- helping parents to solve educational or other problems regarding their child care,
- providing or arranging the counselling of upbringing the child and care for the child with handicap,
- organizing lectures and courses focused on solving educational, social and other problems regarding the child care,
- establishing and operating the professional counselling for child care,
- establishing and operating the institution for children in need of immediate help.
We provide ambulance service to:
Biological parents:
- social and psychological support and counselling,
- regular information about their child's health and mental conditions,
- we sign a contract with biological parents about cooperation on their family stabilisation.
Parents, who decided to take child into adoption or foster care:
- participation in preparation courses for adoptive and foster parents,
- possibility of individual visits in our institution while participating in preparation courses,
- individual consulting with medical doctor and psychologist,
- educational and special educational counselling and successive care for children in adoption or foster care,
- friendly meetings.
Aims of professional staff and friends of Children Centre:
- to help children in any way,
- to bring up children in institution of family type with home like atmosphere,
- for most of the children to make possible the return into their own family,
- to help in stabilisation of biological family,
- to deepen the awareness of belonging to wide family in which one takes responsibility for another,
- to regain respect to every one and waken the interest in abandoned children,
- to support the adoption and foster care for healthy and handicapped children,
- to help in preparation of future parents and foster carers,
- to support parents with children in adoption and also biological parents.
